As a child living in an orphanage, there comes a time in their lives when they can no longer stay at the orphanage with the younger kids. The current solution in place is renting two apartments in Yangon. PCH would like to expand beyond the two apartments currently being rented and buy the entire building.
The building is four stories tall with a flat roof that is usable as well. This building, 'house' would create Hope for a group of young adults as well as for a community that does not have much Hope for the future. This 'house' along with some other opportunities will give them the Hope that they need for a bright future in an effort to break the cycle of poverty. Additionally, it will continue to spread the gospel through these young adults to a people that need Jesus.
Through the purchase and repurposing of this building, PCH would work to accomplish several goals.
No longer pay rent - All rent in Myanmar must be paid one year in advance. Money does not go as far as it once did, and the cost of taking care of the younger kids continues to rise. By raising the money one time that stress can be limited. PCH would also be able to control what goes on in the building.
Be self-sufficient - The first two floors would be a money-making opportunity and provide work for the young adults living in the apartments. The first floor would be a convenience store and sell goods to the community. This would provide the opportunity to learn how to run a business and provide money to pay for food and other needs. The second floor would be a tea shop. A tea shop in Myanmar is like a Starbucks in United States. It is a place to hang out and to socialize. This also creates opportunity to learn a trade, provide money and an opportunity to witness to the community about Jesus.
Provide a safe space - The apartments provide a safe space for the young adults to live during their transition. It is very easy to lose your way, so they always know that if they are in trouble this is their safe space that they can come back to.
Roof top urban church - The roof top will bring the whole project together by turning it into an urban church. PCH would cover the top and create a space that is out of the weather and would allow for the creation of the church. There would be a small room available for a minister on the second floor.
We appreciate your prayerful consideration in partnership with PCH in our mission.
